Wood Boat Design and Construction
Growing up in New Orleans on the Banks of Jean Lafitte Bayou meant I spent my childhood in water. My first bateau, a pirogue meant for the shallow swamps that surrounded my home. Frustrated by the pirogue's inefficiency and lack of secondary stability lead me to design and build a kayak.Today each of my creations are designed and built according to the paddler; taking some 600+ hourse to hand carve and lay each of over a hundred cedar strips. The final product is blanketed in an epoxy/kevlar layup and hand sanded glass smooth.
Cycling
As a young man I found an athletic outlet in running. In the beginning a mile or two seamed far, by sixteen I was running six plus miles a day. Running evolved into a passion, running first marathons and then ultra-marathons. At twenty five I was determined to compete in an Iron-Man triathlon, only I did not bike. Wearing tights and speeding around on a petite bicycle was not my thing, and then I tried it. I now run only when my bike has a flat and I no spare. Currently relaxation is spending a couple of hourse in the saddle.
